Scratched in on the wall you can still find your name. What’s even better, you can find other names, and even remember some of the drama and fun that went along with the relationships.
As the years went by it became harder and harder to find a blank part of the wall, eventually every spot was taken. Considering the first of the names were scratched in the pine boards almost 70 years ago, it’s remarkable that they survived at all. We photographed every plank and made a list of the names and the comments associated with them.
Here’s the list we were able to read on the wall:

Camp Dunroamin was created by Third Act Films, who produce video biography and commissioned documentary productions.

My father, Billy Stevens from Huntsville Alabama attended Camp in 1957. I have wonderful memorabilia and letters of his time there. I have a bag of colored hemp and tin plates carved with his friends names. He was nicknamed “T-Bone” and was voted Chief Dunroamin of the entire camp. He was most proud and i believe it was a strong experience for him. Dad died in 2007 but he carried these memories of boyhood with him daily.
Have just discovered this site – wonderful, wonderful memories-the best of my youth. I attended Dunroamin (A Chowtaw)for nine years (’48 to ’57 as I recall, was so proud to tapped Chief Dunromin my last year as a camper and then followed up with two years as a Junior Counselor.
Does anyone know who owns that property now?
D.Moss
A retired military officer from Huntsville and his wife live there with a huge dog. They left it almost exactly as it was.
My memories of the camp are very special. I attended from 52 to 59. Mr. Jimmy and Miss.Havalon and all the counselors made every boy feel special. My thanks to those who stared this website.David Moss was a great counselor and I really looked up to him.
Bob: If you have some pictures or movies from camp let us know.
I first went to Dunroaamin in 1944 or 45 so everything on this site so far is after my time! I do remember some of the names on the craft house wall. I don’t really remember the craft house- it may have been a new addition after I left. I was a Jr. Counselor and head swimming counselor in 1953. I met my husband at camp and when I ran in to him again at Vanderbilt, I remembered him. The rest , so they say, is history. We had 4 children and 8 grands.
So many kids from Decatur (AL) went to Dunroamin, including my brother, Bud Orr. We also started the Arkansas trend as Helena was my mother’s hometown.
Since My husband, Jon, was from Fayetteville, I saw the Gearishes until they died.
To say Dunroamin dictated my life is an accurate statement!!!
